Housefull 4 (Hindi Movie) Review:
The much awaited HOUSEFULL franchise is back in the festival of lights. HOUSEFULL 4 which has the story credited to the producer Sajid Nadiadwala deals with the subject of re-incarnation. And with Akshay Kumar at the helm, the film has all the ingredients for a commercial blockbuster. But then the story and screenplay are so weak that you sit and wonder how on earth Akshay gave a green signal to this project.

Year 2019 London – Harry is a barber who has a habit of memory loss if he hears a loud noise. His brothers Max and Roy fall into trouble when Harry has this memory loss when they are asked to keep a huge amount of money that belongs to Michael.

When they are asked to return the money the trio says that they are in a relationship with a very wealthy man Papa Ranjeet’s daughters Kriti, Neha and Pooja and once they are married they would repay back the money.

The trio meets up with Papa Ranjeet and the destination wedding is fixed in India in a place called Sitamgarh. On their arrival at Sitamgarh fort, they are greeted by Aakhri Pasta who immediately recognizes everyone who belonged to the royal family of Sitamgarh. Also Harry has the flashes of his past life.

Cut to year 1419 Madhavgarh. Bala is a notorious Prince of Madhavgarh but is banished by his father and along with Aakhri Pasta reaches Sitamgarh where he finds the King Suryadev Singh is celebrating his birthday along with his three daughters Madhu, Meena and Mala who are protected by Dharamputra and who also learn dancing from Bangdu Maharaj.

Bala woos Madhu while Meena is in love with Dharam and Mala falls for Bangdu. But as they are going to get married, the wazir Suryabhan who wants to be the king of Sitamgarh kills them with the help of Gama, a ferocious chief of a clan.

Akshay Kumar as Bala / Harry gets the most interesting part but he disappoints. He tries to induce laughs which are forced. Riteish Deshmukh as Bangdu / Roy does his usual repetitive part but still manages to shine. Bobby Deol as Dharam / Max is also a huge disappointment as he looks completely out of place.

All the three girls Kriti Sanon as Madhu / Kriti, Pooja Hegde as Mala / Pooja and Kriti Kharbanda as Meena / Neha look beautiful and that is all that they are required to do. Chunky Pandey as Aakhri Pasta is looks extremely jaded and has no scope in this part.

Rana Duggabati as Gama / Pappu Rangeela is the surprise package of the film. He truly entertains in both the avatars. Sharad Kelkar does justice in the limited screen time he has as Suryabhan / Michael. Ranjeet as Suryadev Singh / Papa Ranjeet has nothing much and his aye doesn’t gel with this film. The Johny Lever and Jamie Lever connection is a surprise.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Ramsay Baba in a cameo gives a horrible tribute to the famous Ramsay Brothers but Manoj Pahwa shines as Big Bhai and his act raises a few laughs.

Director Farhad Samji looks quite incapable of handling such a big project. He along with his brother had earlier directed the rib-tickling ENTERTAINMENT, but this time alone he falters. Yet again he has made references to songs and films which are likeable but on the whole his jokes fall flat. But if TOTAL DHAMAAL could nett Rs. 150 crores at the BO, then you never know even this can.

Music is ok with Bala Shaitan ka saala being the catchiest. The bhoot song which is a remake of the Laxmikant Pyarelal’s 1977 song from the Dharmendra-Hema Malini starrer CHACHA BHATIJA does not impress at all. Yes the camerawork by Sudeep Chatterjee is praiseworthy.
